Sus­pi­cious fire at Su­percheap Auto

Ten fire­fight­ers at­tended a sus­pi­cious fire at Pukekohe’s Su­percheap Auto on Sun­day.

Two fire en­gines re­sponded to the blaze on Massey Ave at ap­prox­i­mately 2am said Pukekohe Chief Fire Of­fi­cer John Robin­son.

The fire be­gan in the rub­bish skip next to the build­ing and caused some struc­tural dam­age to the ex­te­rior. The blaze took ap­prox­i­mately one hour and fif­teen min­utes to ex­tin­guish.

It is not con­firmed if the blaze is re­lated to the re­cent series of fires in the area, but po­lice are treat­ing the in­ci­dent as sus­pi­cious.

The cause of the fire is un­known but po­lice will be con­duct­ing an in­ves­ti­ga­tion with the as­sis­tance of the Fire and Emer­gency New Zealand.

The Franklin area has seen a re­cent spate of sus­pi­cious fires, of­ten tar­get­ing show homes and va­cant houses un­der con­struc­tion
