Waiuku’s epic twin photo shoot

- EMELYN MCHARDY

June 9 was a twin-tastic day in Waiuku as 50 sets of local twins converged on Kevan Lawrence Park for a history-making twin photo shoot.

Local photographer Aliah Jan put up her hand to snap the photo, after learning that Waiuku College had 16 twins attending the school this year.

She put out the call for local twins to take part, and said she was flooded with replies.

Jan said the college won’t have any trouble keeping up its high twin count, after she did the photo shoot, as she found the town was still growing its twin population.

‘‘I think Waiuku College is going to have more twins because there are a lot more in the primary schools and kindergartens.’’

One set of twins who might one day attend the college were Lucy and Toni Gibbons. At just 16 days old, they were youngest set of twins at the shoot. Jan said she really enjoyed the event. ‘‘Everybody was so happy to come. And it’s really about the community.

‘‘They all came and they all made the effort to come. So a big thank you to all of them.’’

Individual shoots were done on the day, as well as a large group photo of all the twins, that would be framed and hung in the Waiuku Museum, which One Agency Counties Realty would fund.

Jan said it was a great day, and it turned into a bit of an impromptu picnic, thanks to Waiuku Subway, and Waiuku Pita Pit who sponsored the event, and provided food.

As well as Jasmine Woolrich Martin from Pukekohe Harcourts, who provided pizza after the shoot.

Every twin also walked away with a goodie bag form other sponsors and supporters of the event.
