Creative container gardening

A bit of science plus a bit of artistic flair makes a living piece of art. Combining different plants in a stylish planter is a wonderful way to celebrate your plant passion - no matter what your living arrangements may be!

Design tips

1 Start with a tall ‘thriller'

approximately three times the container height. Canna Tropicanna® shown here is ideal.

2

Play with contrasting textures, for example combine bold stripy foliage with softer rounded leaves and delicate flowers.

3

Include ‘spillers' and ‘fillers' for an attractive finished art piece. Leave no soil left uncovered so that the container is spilling over with plant life.

4 Select plants with similar tastes.

Plants sharing one container should all like the same conditions - sunny or shady location, low or high moisture requirements, high or low fertiliser needs.

5 Choose a container that complements its plants.

For example the shiny foliage of Pacific™ coprosmas looks great in a glossy reflective pot.

6

Go for it! There is no such thing as ‘wrong’ in art, as long as the plants are happy sharing the same conditions as their container buddies.
