Whanganui sits on the western coast of the North Is­land and has a pop­u­la­tion of 43,800. Part of the Manawatu re­gion, Whanganui is known for it's nu­mer­ous land­marks and historic build­ings. The Whanganui river which runs through the town is New Zealand's long­est nav­i­ga­ble wa­ter­way.
