Opawa Wine Best Drinks List

Good Food Guide - - Winners - SPONSORED BY OPAWA WINE

Large, lively and relaxed, Charley Noble has that buzz factor that’s prerequisite for a good night out. Housed in a refurbished waterfront heritage building, the long, open room with soaring stud and floor-to-ceiling windows has an industrial quality, with a mix of booth, banquette and high bench seating overlooking the open kitchen. The menu is big on simple, rustic, European-influenced food – beautifully rich, aromatic crab and prawn bisque with brandy cream impressed recently, as did a dish of pappardelle with a chunky duck ragu. The easy-to-navigate wine list has depth and flair, and the seasonal cocktail list is seriously tempting – how about an Emberhouse, made with house-smoked rum, black treacle and orange bitters, or perhaps you’re more in the mood for a sugarplum bramble? Aperitifs and digestifs are also well represented, and there are some great Kiwi craft beers and ciders, covering a range of styles and regions. 1 Post Office Square, City, ph: 04-282 0205, charleyno Lunch Mon-fri, dinner 7 days; shared plates $14-$56
