Good Food Guide - - Auckland -

When in-the-know Aucklanders are looking for a place to send visitors, Depot’s always high on the list; it positively hums with energy and bonhomie. Owner Al Brown (above) opened the doors five years ago; his vision of giving people the good times and flavours of a classic Kiwi bach remains on point. Kick off with oysters or tuatua from the raw bar, then move onto rustic, flavourpacked dishes from head chef Kyle Street’s seasonally driven, secondary-cut-focused menu – skirt steak with tobacco onions, perhaps, or pork hock with apple. And if you can squeeze it in, it would be rude not to order a wedge of the legendary sugar pie. This is a fast and fun joint where the wine comes in tumblers, the cutlery’s in a tin can and people queue out the door every night of the week – get there early. 86 Federal St, City, ph: 09-363 7048, eatatde Breakfast, lunch & dinner 7 days; bigger share plates $25-$36 IN BRIEF The fun and flavours of the Kiwi bach
