Good Food Guide - - Northland -

14/20 Boats bobbing close by, hearty portions of honest food and a wine list that entertains and informs – all are reasons to relax at Quay on the Whangarei Town Basin. In this modern bistro, much of the meat comes from the owners’ farm, including the tasty Highgate Hill Farm coarse pork sausage. Seafood is also celebrated, as evidenced in a barely pan-kissed tuna dish with miso mayonnaise and braised kelp (above). The wine list is a journal of experiences of co-owner Lloyd Rooney, with local drops given as much prominence as those from abroad, and the floor crew are youthful and friendly. It’s Northland and it’s casual, so go with the flow as the tide meanders past and loosen the bow line of life a little to really enjoy the best dining in town. 31 Quayside, Town Basin, Whangarei, 09 430 2628, facebook.com/ Thequaywhangarei Brunch, lunch & dinner 7 days; mains $29-$35 A fresh focal point IN BRIEF for Whangarei food lovers
