The gentrification of K Rd continues in one of the city’s best arcades; yes, you are literally eating in the park end of a shopping arcade, but St Kevin’s is a heritage beaut. The mishmash of tables and chairs ensure the restaurant is fun and funky, in keeping with the neighbourhood. Chef Samir Allen (above) cooks modern interpretations of his Lebanese heritage, while his mother Liane Farry runs the front of house. The food is made for sharing; order the “jeeb” and perfectly executed classics such as hummus, baba ganoush and falafel will appear, followed by larger plates such as kibbeh bi sayneyeh, the sourness offsetting the richness in this dish of lamb with bulghur, pomegranate molasses and mint. The wine selection of Lebanese wines is interesting and varied.
