Kika is the brain­child of Francesca Voza and James Sta­p­ley, who also own the hugely pop­u­lar Francesca’s Ital­ian Kitchen. The tapas-style, mod­ern Ital­ian menu is rus­tic and tasty, with rich and lus­cious dishes con­trast­ing with others that are light and del­i­cate. You might have deep-fried Jerusalem ar­ti­chokes with black gar­lic sauce and a smooth net­tle aioli, and a vi­brant green pea hum­mus with goat’s yo­ghurt, pre­served lemon and seed cracker, then fol­low up with su­perb lamb shoul­der with pre­served lemon, rose­mary and chilli, or a de­li­cious half chicken in a rich XO sauce. The “Just Feed Me” menu, of­fer­ing three small dishes, a main, two sides and a dessert plus three wine matches, is a great op­tion. All the wines on the well-cu­rated list are avail­able by the glass in a range of pours, and ser­vice is wel­com­ing and friendly.
