GET THEM MOVING

Good Health Choices - - Be Informed -

Happily, most Kiwi kids get the recommended amount of physical activity, but instilling this as a habit will help set them up for a healthier life. It doesn’t have to be structured play – anything that gets them up and moving for at least an hour a day will do.

What to do

» Build physical activity into your child’s day – for example, walk to school instead of driving, or wash the car.

» Be active yourself and involve the whole family.

» Check out ‘Activities for children and young people’ at health.govt.nz for more ideas.

» Prolonged sitting is harmful to a child’s health. New Zealand guidelines recommend that kids aged five to 17 should spend no more than two hours a day in front of a screen.
