If you don’t have the luxury of time to hike to a hot spring, float therapy is another option. Based on a scientific approach to deep relaxation called Restricted Environmen­tal Stimulatio­n Technique (REST) , the approach involves floating in darkness in a pod of warm water buoyed by 40 per cent magnesium sulphate (Epsom salts). This affects areas of the brain devoted to processing sensory informatio­n, further increasing the depth of mental relaxation. While you float, your body is relieved of stress and you feel completely weightless.
