Uni Open Day

The Univer­sity of Waikato is hav­ing an Open Day on Fri­day May 18 on its Hamil­ton cam­pus, 9.30am-2pm. The free an­nual event show­cases qualifications, aca­demic ex­cel­lence, stu­dent sup­port and fa­cil­i­ties. Prospec­tive stu­dents can try their hand at sci­ence ex­per­i­ments, tour the cam­pus, at­tend mini-lec­tures and work­shops and talk to staff and stu­dents about study op­tions.

YWCA marks 75 years

The YWCA in Pem­broke Street is cel­e­brat­ing 75 years on Tues­day May 15. It is open to all, with tours of the YWCA at 11am and 1pm. The first 100 peo­ple can en­joy a dis­counted cof­fee at The Veran­dah at nearby Hamil­ton Lake.

Merge in Waikato

Merge NZ which is in­volved in the pro­mo­tion, de­vel­op­ment and ser­vices re­lated to New Zealand Sign Lan­guage (NZSL) is ex­pand­ing its ser­vices to in­clude the Waikato . launch event at the Hamil­ton Gar­dens Ex­hi­bi­tion Hall on Fri­day 11 May at 6pm to co­in­cide with NZSL week which runs from May 7-13.

Life­style Expo

The Women’s Life­style Expo is on May 26-27 at Claude­lands Event Cen­tre. More than 100 com­pa­nies will be in­volved fea­tur­ing ev­ery­thing from jew­ellery and beauty to busi­ness prod­ucts and in­for­ma­tion, crafts, fit­ness, food and wine sam­pling and more.

Kids’ Night Hunt

Waikato Univer­sity stu­dents are hold­ing a Kids’ Night Hunt start­ing at the Univer­sity vi­o­late green at 5.30pm on Satur­day May 19. Pri­mary school kids are in­vited to get a team to­gether, dress in their cra­zi­est pur­ple out­fits and come along to the Waikato cam­pus armed with torches and clue-solv­ing abil­i­ties for a night of fun. Each team will need three to five mem­bers with one par­ent su­per­vis­ing. Cost is $5 per child. It is a fundraiser for for Epilepsy New Zealand, www.epilepsy.org.nz

Zine­fest cor­rec­tion

The Hamil­ton News re­port last week about the Zine­fest event in Hamil­ton re­ferred to artists Dan Clowes and Robert Crumb rep­re­sented by Fan­ta­graph­ics. While Keeli Mc­cartly of Fan­ta­graph­ics Pub­lish­ing USA will be visit­ing, our re­port in­cor­rectly in­di­cated that Clowes and Crumb will be at­tend­ing. Hamil­ton News re­grets the er­ror and apol­o­gises to all con­cerned. Zine­fest is on to­mor­row, May 12, at The Me­teor Theatre, Vic­to­ria Street.
