Shar­ing the pos­i­tive with po­etry event

The Up­lift Po­etry Tour is com­ing to Hamil­ton next week as a na­tional Youth Week event or­gan­ised by Te Ru¯ nanga O¯ Kirikiriroa.

Te Ru¯ nanga O ¯ Kirikiriroa is a youth health and de­vel­op­ment or­gan­i­sa­tion that of­fers ed­u­ca­tional, pro­mo­tional and so­cial ser­vice ini­tia­tives to young peo­ple and their wha¯ nau in the Hamil­ton area.

This tour is about cel­e­brat­ing Youth Week with a bang, the or­gan­is­ers say.

“It is all about pro­mot­ing pos­i­tive mes­sages and sto­ries, shar­ing knowl­edge of healthy life­styles and en­cour­ag­ing free­dom to ex­press to the many masses of ran­gatahi through an em­pow­er­ing and in­spir­ing show­case of spo­ken word po­etry then a fol­low on work­shop of cre­at­ing, writ­ing and per­form­ing spo­ken word po­etry 101 with the Up­lift team,” the or­gan­is­ers says.

Fea­ture po­ets are Michael Moore and Maria Hu­ata, as well as other po­ets to be con­firmed.

The po­etry tour in­cludes a Spo­ken Word Po­etry Show­case and Work­shop from Mon­day May 21 to Fri­day May 25. It is hosted and pre­sented by Dj Stretch­mark, Bboy 3rdrock and the Up­lift Po­ets.

The plan for the week is: ■ Mon­day: Destylez Stu­dio Cafe and Hamil­ton Ju­nior High School. ■ Tues­day: YWCA and Nga¯ ru­awa¯ hia High School. ■ Wed­nes­day: Waikato Mu­seum and Hamil­ton Girls High School. ■ Thurs­day: Hamil­ton Pop Up Li­brary and Hamil­ton Boys High School ■ Fri­day: River­side (Vic­to­ria on the River) venue and Ra¯ kau­manga­manga

■ Events at pub­lic com­mu­nity venues are 10-11am and at school venues 12.30-1pm
