Sharing the positive with poetry event
The Uplift Poetry Tour is coming to Hamilton next week as a national Youth Week event organised by Te Ru¯ nanga O¯ Kirikiriroa.
Te Ru¯ nanga O ¯ Kirikiriroa is a youth health and development organisation that offers educational, promotional and social service initiatives to young people and their wha¯ nau in the Hamilton area.
This tour is about celebrating Youth Week with a bang, the organisers say.
“It is all about promoting positive messages and stories, sharing knowledge of healthy lifestyles and encouraging freedom to express to the many masses of rangatahi through an empowering and inspiring showcase of spoken word poetry then a follow on workshop of creating, writing and performing spoken word poetry 101 with the Uplift team,” the organisers says.
Feature poets are Michael Moore and Maria Huata, as well as other poets to be confirmed.
The poetry tour includes a Spoken Word Poetry Showcase and Workshop from Monday May 21 to Friday May 25. It is hosted and presented by Dj Stretchmark, Bboy 3rdrock and the Uplift Poets.
The plan for the week is: ■ Monday: Destylez Studio Cafe and Hamilton Junior High School. ■ Tuesday: YWCA and Nga¯ ruawa¯ hia High School. ■ Wednesday: Waikato Museum and Hamilton Girls High School. ■ Thursday: Hamilton Pop Up Library and Hamilton Boys High School ■ Friday: Riverside (Victoria on the River) venue and Ra¯ kaumangamanga
■ Events at public community venues are 10-11am and at school venues 12.30-1pm
