The smallest member of Mazda’s CX crossover/suv family has received its mid-life upgrade with the arrival of Model Year 2019 CX3S offering increased specification levels and additions to the standard safety roster.

Among the line-up changes is the introduction of a flagship CX3 Takami which brings a new level of luxury to the CX-3 range and becomes the second Mazda model to adopt the Takami name for the premium equipment level.

First seen in the revamped Mazda6 Sedan earlier this year, the Takami grade features bespoke content including Nappa leather trim, an automatic day/night rear view mirror and powered sunroof.

In total there are six models in the 2019 CX-3 range with a single GSX all-wheel-drive model and five variants offered with frontwheel-drive. All CX-3 models are powered by Mazda’s 2.0-litre Skyactiv-g petrol engine with 110kw output at 6000rpm, 195Nm of torque at 2800rpm and driving through a six-speed automatic transmission.

The 2019 Mazda CX-3 has a 5-star ANCAP safety rating and all models feature a reversing camera as well as i-activsense safety technology such as Advanced Smart City Brake Support — Forward (ACSBS-F) and electric parking brake for ease of operation.

From the second tier GSX grade the CX-3 gains a number of additional i-activsense technologies, including Blind Spot Monitoring (BSM), Traffic Sign Recognition (TSR), Smart City Brake Support Reverse (SCBS-R) and Mazda Radar Cruise Control

(MRCC). The 2019 CX-3 Limited and Takami models also feature LED running lamps, heated exterior mirrors, a seven-speaker Bose Premium audio system, heated front seats, Adaptive LED Headlamps (ALH), Lane Departure Warning System (LDWS) and Driver Attention Alert (DAA).

The GSX, Limited and Takami grades showcase new 18-inch alloy wheels, new front and tail lamp designs, piano black door pillar garnish and new dashboard decoration. Along with the visual changes Mazda says its engineers have made significant enhancements to noise, vibration, and harshness (NVH) by increasing thickness of front and rear door panels and rear door glass.
