Fairfield trio has never missed a day of school
Three Fairfield College students will be finishing five years of high school this week, without missing a single day.
Jordan Mactier, Samuel Janek and Alex Miller have all achieved perfect attendance, which all three students credit to the school providing an enjoyable atmosphere.
Last year, Jarrod Neill-woodd from Fairfield College also completed five years of secondary school with not a single days absence
For Jordan, it was keeping one eye on his future that helped him complete high school without an absence.
“For most of my school time, I did not enjoy it until I got to Fairfield,” Jordan said.
“I just did not want to miss any time at a school that has provided me with great opportunities and friends.”
He said that Fairfield College treats you like an adult, and it allowed him to spend some time with nearly every subject to figure out what he wanted to do in the future.
“They give you the tools, and they expect you to use them but, the teachers are always there if you need them.”
Jordan is hoping after school to pursue a career in outdoor education.
Alex shared many of the same thoughts of Jordan, crediting the friends he had made at the school as why it was so easy to attend.
“I personally really enjoyed coming to school,” Alex said.
Alex had also done a wide variety of subjects, but will follow his passion of IT at university.
Samuel sees himself as a completionist and said it felt good just to have “500 per cent attendance over five years”.
“I got through the first year and got 100 per cent attendance and said, you know what this felt good, let’s go for the full five years.
“It’s 40 weeks a year, 200 days a year, so 1000 days in total.”
Samuel has eyed up a Media Design course at Wintec for when he finishes school.
All three boys considered themselves lucky that they did not have to take days off for illness, saying the worse they ever got were small coughs.
Deputy Headmaster Malgosia Cholewa said it was awesome that the students felt the way they did, as the school tries to offer subjects around their interests.
“It is neat when they want to try different things and keep coming,” Ms Cholewa said.
The students received a special award for their achievement at the school’s award assembly on Tuesday night.
