Last-minute points decided two of the top matches in the Waikato Premier A club rugby competition.

Morrinsville Sports travelled over to Hamilton to take on Fraser Tech on Saturday afternoon.

Both teams were looking for their first win in week 2 of the second round of the competition.

The sides seemed to be evenly matched in a low scoring game, which was decided in the final 10 minutes by a try to the home side, pipping the visitors by 20-18.

There were two tries each. For Tech, the tries came through left winger Liam CoombesFabling and right winger Ryo Kikikawa.

Tech’s first-five Matty Lansdown kicked two conversions and two penalties, which proved to be the difference in the game.

For Morrinsville, tries were awarded to Chad Bracey and Regan Osbourne, who also kicked one conversion and two penalties.

Morrinsville was hot on attack in the final seconds but could not manage to cross the line before fulltime was called.

In was a similar situation in the local derry match between Hamilton Old Boys and Hamilton Marist.

A last minute try from Marist prop Josh Kaho saw the team win the Stag Trophy off Hamilton Old Boys, with a 17-14 win.

The Stag is a challenge trophy played between all Hamilton clubs. Hamilton Old Boys have held onto it since their win over Fraser Tech last season.

Matt Jenson also scored a try for Marist while halfback Dylan Bower kicked over two conversions and a penalty, to overtake HOB’s two tries and two conversions.

Hautapu avenged their first round loss to University with a 34-23 win.

University kicked for points in this game while Hautapu scored tries, through prop Patrick Lui, first-five Ciarahn Matoe, second-five Sam Tupou and centre Tautau Kopea.

Matoe had a good day with the boot, slotting four conversions and two penalty kicks.

Otorohanga was at home to take on Melville. It was a match Otorohanga lost when the two sides met in round one but it was a different outcome on Saturday.

Otorohanga was strong from the start, jumping out to a 19-0 lead.

Melville mounted a comeback but Otorohanga was strong in the end winning 41-20.
