NZ Post seeks help serving city

- GARY FARROW

NZ Post needs to partner up with more local businesses in Hamilton to maintain its services.

Postal services are currently available at the NZ Post & Kiwibank locations in Chartwell Square and Te Rapa, but the post will soon be dealt with elsewhere, as Kiwibank needs to use more of the space in the premises.

This means in the near future, new business partnerships will need to be found to provide the post services currently available at the Chartwell and Te Rapa branches.

‘‘What we’ve just announced is that we are looking to partner with local businesses to provide postal services from these two locations in Hamilton on our behalf,’’ a NZ Post spokesperson said.

‘‘In recent years, we have relocated postal services from eight PostShops in Hamilton, and partnered with eight local businesses to continue to provide these same postal services on our behalf.

It’s part of a continuing trend, as a decreasing number of people are using postal services, particularly for sending letters.

However, the company was determined to maintain its postal services at their current level for Hamilton.

NZ Post works with local businesses around the country to enable it to operate ‘‘a financially stable business’’, the spokesperson said.

‘‘We already do this in a number of Hamilton communities, such as Video Ezy in Te Rapa, Kiwibank in Rototuna, and Nawton Stationers and Lotto.’’

NZ Post also wanted to emphasise that during the search for partners, there would be no reduction from current services to their customers who use either the Chartwell or Te Rapa stores.

They will still be able to buy postage, send parcels and access the box lobbies.

NZ Post is going to work alongside Kiwibank to keep staff, customers and the local community informed.

It reassures its customers that postal services are not going to cease for the Hamilton community.
