Covid: What youmight need at home?

-

The Government recommends everyone keeps a number of basic items at home to help us if we need to self-isolate or manage Covid-19 symptoms at home. If you need assistance to gather these items, contact Age Concern Hamilton and the team will help.

Pharmacies are ready to drop medicines to the homes of the people who need them; contact your local pharmacy and let them know if you need medicines delivered. If you take medication for chronic illnesses, don’t leave it until the last minute to visit your GP; keep on hand what you might need should you catch Covid-19 and be unable to attend regular appointments.

Who can bring you groceries and essential items? If you may have difficulty with this, Age Concern can help.

It is recommended that you have basic supplies at home to manage cold or flu symptoms. Covid-positive patients are now isolating at home supported by Public Health teams. Some basics could include:

Paracetamol

Ibuprofen

Thermometer

Re-hydration sachets or premixed drinks

Sore throat treatments: honey, or a numbing lozenge/spray

Talk to your pharmacy, GP or Practice Nurse for further advice.

You can register in advance with Age Concern for assistance should you require it. You can complete our Covid-19 Emergency Assistance Form and drop it off to us in advance or put your copy inside your Life Tube, and emergency services can email it to us.

There is the potential for shortages due to supply chain issues. Age Concern’s Health Promotion team have substitution recipes available to cope with food shortages and will be responding to any new shortages if they arise. ‘‘Please call us if you have difficulty securing food items,’’ says Age Concern Hamilton executive officer Sara Farmer.

‘‘Food shortages will affect those with and without income constraints and we recognise older people are often only able to shop at certain times. We understand your health or circumstances may make it difficult to go to a second supermarket or on another day. We are here to help, call us any time on 07 838 2266.’’
