CanTeen Spring Run success for the bikers

- BY BRENDA VOWDEN

This year’s Hawke’s Bay Harley MC Spring Run for CanTeen raised around $8000 when more than 300 bikes and their pillion passengers took to the road for a good cause a month ago.

Around 50 to 60 people came through the doors for a meet and greet the night before the Spring Run revved into action.

Organiser Antony Huckle says it’s a good chance for friends old and new to catch up prior to the Saturday ride.

“The meet and greet sets us up nicely for the bikes plus pillion passengers who attend the Saturday ride. A lot of people travel from out of town to make a weekend of it.”

The ride made its way through to the Waikare Sports Centre in Putorino. Antony says the riders had a fantastic lunch put on by the locals before making their way back to racecourse. The weather played a major part in the success of the event, but the highlight was the donation to CanTeen, Antony says.

“It was a fantastic day, beautiful weather and great donations to CanTeen of $8000.”

The whole event was smooth sailing, with some riders returning each year.

“We’ve got riders and mates who have attended every one.

“As this is the first big run of the spring/summer, we get lots of riders who keep coming back for more.”

CanTeen Hawke’s Bay described the event as an amazing day and thanked everyone who came along and helped make the day such a huge success.
