Acting classes for stage, screen
Experienced coach starts classes at Real Theatre Company
The Real Theatre Company is hosting an acting course for adults aged 17 years and over.
The classes will be facilitated by experienced acting trainer David Coddington and will cover acting for stage and screen.
The course is designed to develop acting techniques to ensure actor’s interactions on stage and screen are focused, energised, empathetic and truthful.
The course will also develop the actor’s self-confidence through exercises which explore vulnerability and sensitivity.
David has more than 40 years experience training actors and is originally from Hawke’s Bay where he taught at Central Hawke’s Bay College and Te Aute College. David was involved in directing and acting in a wide variety of productions for both school and community theatre before being invited to take up a position as a professional director at Auckland’s Mercury Theatre.
David left Mercury Theatre to pursue a freelance career as a drama/acting tutor and director of several productions. In 1991 he was one of three founding directors of The South Seas Film & TV School and developed their on-screen acting course in 2001.
David founded The Real Theatre Company and directed several professional productions in all Auckland’s major theatres.
In 2009 David developed and was the director of the Manukau Institute of Technology’s Bachelor of Performing Arts Course until his retirement in 2014.
Now back in Hawke’s Bay, David is continuing to purpose his interests in theatre through training actors and staging productions. David Coddington is an experienced director.
Students on the acting course will have the opportunity to showcase their skills and perform in Holiday Productions for Children.
The 10-week course for stage and screen starts on Wednesday, February 20 at the Asher Hall, Dalton Street, Napier from 6pm to 8pm. No experience is required.
