Call for contest sculptures
Sculptors are invited to submit an entry in the MCL Construction 2019 Art Hawke’s Bay Exhibition being held from Thursday, March 21 to Sunday, March 24 in the Cheval Room at the Hawke’s Bay Racing Centre.
“We are delighted that the sculpture selector this year is well known Hawke’s Bay artist Ricks Terstappen,” says sculptures’ coordinator Sheryl Eustace.
Sculpture will be part of the selected exhibition, with a prize of $250 for the winner. Ricks was born in the Netherlands and emigrated to New Zealand in 1978. His work can be seen in largescale public sculptures and many private collections. Ricks makes his sculptural creations using metals, wood and found materials. He exhibits frequently in Hawke’s Bay and throughout the country.
Opening night is Wednesday, March 20 at 5.30pm and includes the awards presentations. Entries are for sale at the exhibition and afterwards through the website.
The sculpture entry is limited to one per person, with the dimensions to be no greater than 750cm x 500cm x 1800cm height.
“It can of course be smaller,” Sheryl says.
For expressions of interest email Sheryl Eustace at 50sheryle@gmail.com before Monday, March 4. After this, send images of three sides of the work to 50sheryle@gmail.com no later than Thursday, March 7. “Initial selection will be made from these images, and then the final selection and winner will be judged at the venue by our guest selector. You will be asked to bring your sculpture to the venue — Cheval Rooms at the Hastings Racing Centre — on Sunday, March 17, at 3pm. You will be notified Tuesday, March 19, if your sculpture has been selected.”
■ The entry fee is $10. The entry form is on the website www.arthawkesbay.co.nz or from Sheryl. All entries received by March 1 get free entrance to opening night.
