Step­ping it up for Mul­ti­ple Scle­ro­sis

Ni­cola Brown and Robyn Coyle, Hawkes Bay Mul­ti­ple Scle­ro­sis So­ci­ety staff mem­bers can’t be­lieve they are about to run their sev­enth an­nual Mul­ti­ple Steps for Mul­ti­ple Scle­ro­sis event to be held on Wed­nes­day, Oc­to­ber 24.

What started as a small trek up and down the Napier hill has grown to a three course event cater­ing for ev­ery­one.

Along with a 5km course up and over Bluff Hill, there is also the 10km course up and over Bluff Hill and Hos­pi­tal Hill plus a 5km flat course along Ma­rine Pa­rade’s Ro­tary Path­way.

Funds raised from the $10 en­try fee re­main in Hawke’s Bay to ben­e­fit peo­ple with mul­ti­ple scle­ro­sis and their fam­i­lies.

Newly capped Black Fern Krys­ten Cot­trell is bring­ing her Hawke’s Bay Tui team mates to par­tic­i­pate in this year’s event. Mul­ti­ple Scle­ro­sis is dear to Krys­ten’s heart as her grand­fa­ther John has had mul­ti­ple scle­ro­sis for 33 years.

“John is an in­cred­i­bly proud grand­fa­ther to his sporty grand­daugh­ter and Krys­ten is a dot­ing grand­daugh­ter and a great source of sup­port to her Pop,” event or­gan­iser Ni­cola says.

A cou­ple of days af­ter this event Krys­ten is fly­ing over­seas for the Black Ferns end of year tour.

Pre-reg­is­tra­tion is pre­ferred via web­site www.hawkes­bay­mul­ti­plescle­ro­sis.org (which will put you in the draw to win a prize) or reg­is­ter on the night at the Sound Shell from 5pm.

The 10km event starts at 5.45pm, the 5km hill at 6pm and the flat course at 6.05pm.

Ahuriri Sun­rise Ro­tary Club is pro­vid­ing a com­pli­men­tary sausage siz­zle at the fin­ish line. There is also a raft of spot prizes up for grabs.
