Re­mem­ber self care and say­ing no now and then

You know those weeks where your body goes on strike and re­minds you that you can’t ac­tu­ally do ev­ery­thing, all the time, and at some point you’re go­ing to have to stop and take care of your­self? Yeah, I’ve had one of those weeks.

Like lots of peo­ple out there I was struck down by the nasty cold that’s been go­ing around. Fresh off the back of work­ing 18 hour days on Fringe in the ‘Stings. Was I sur­prised? Yes. Was any­one else around me? Nope.

It’s been a timely re­minder for me that self care is im­por­tant, and that it’s ok to say no to things.

As women and busi­ness peo­ple es­pe­cially, it’s hard to fight against the ex­pec­ta­tion that you can be all things at all times. I’m cer­tainly guilty of feel­ing like I needed to be able to han­dle ev­ery­thing per­fectly no mat­ter what is go­ing on around me. And while get­ting sick is never the way you want to learn these lessons, I guess if you’re not lis­ten­ing to your body’s cues, at some point it’s go­ing to go on strike.

So on­wards and up­wards (with a lit­tle more life bal­ance) to­wards our next amaz­ing event! The launch of the 2018/2019 Har­courts Hast­ings City Night Mar­ket sea­son!
