Mail now comes on other days

NZ Post has started its alternate day mail delivery in Waihi.

The mail delivery system has shifted from a daily to an alternate day, with some parts of town receiving their mail on a different day.

NZ Post says the operational change won’t affect customer service.

“We want to reassure our customers that our delivery targets are staying the same,” a NZ Post spoke person says.

Similar to Waihi Beach which underwent the same change a few months ago, NZ Post says that online technology is now used more often.

“With advances in technology, New Zealanders are doing more online and sending fewer letters, and we need to adapt accordingly.

“We acknowledge that this will be a change in how people receive their mail, however we need to make these changes to operate a commercially sustainable mail business,” it says.

In 2015, NZ Post started a phased approach to move to alternate day delivery in major towns and cities with customers now receiving mail on Monday, Wednesday and Friday, or Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday.

“In other areas, alternate day delivery is being introduced carefully over time.

“Each town is different, and we look closely at the best way to provide services in each area,” NZ Post says. Posties will still work six days a week but on different parts of town.
