COLLEGE COLTS FOOTBALL

- By BRENT WILLOUGHBY

The Waihi College Colts have kept the momentum going with a strong match against a HBHS XI.

Up 4-0 at half time, they could have been 20-0 ahead, but for the apparent strong force field around their opponents goal, and some excellent goalkeeping.

Coach Rudy Sas was happy with the way the team performed, showing great determination until the final whistle.

“I am very happy with the way they performed and they showed great determination until the final whistle, and that’s what it takes to win games,” he said.

Jamie Grey was most impressive with a high work rate, resulting in player of the day. Konnah Sas scored a hattrick plus one and was unlucky not to get a fifth with an overhead bicycle kick. Final score was 8-0 with the other goals coming from Ben Hennessy and Captain Hamish Brown. Arch rivals Te Awamutu lost to St Peter’s, meaning Waihi are now top, equal with TA but with a superior goal difference, and a home fixture against Te Awamutu to look forward to on the final day.

The year 7 and 8 team had another fine win — definitely in the wrong grade this season. They had won their division, and Coach Dave Oliver has some excellent talent. All players have continued to strive, regardless of the score, and train and play with an excellent attitude.

■ Results: Waihi College Colts 8, Hamilton Boys High 0. Player of the day: Jamie Grey. Goals: Ben Hennessy 2 Hamish Brown 2 and Konnah Sas 4.
