This tournament took place on Sunday August 26, and the warm sunny weather was much appreciate­d by the 80 players in the field, including visitors from Renner Park, Mt Nessing, Tauranga, Apiti,

mokoroa, Mt Maunganui and Lakeview.

Imagine the thrill of playing your first tournament, with father as your team-mate, and coming in at the head of the field with a winning score in the Men’s pairs. Eleven-year-old Marcus Benjamin, in his second year as a Tauranga Golf Club member, kept an eagle eye on the results board, and when it became obvious that their lead was secure, his excitement was palpable, accompanie­d by the widest smile ever seen in the clubhouse.

Results — Mixed pairs winners: Karen and Andy Roche 57.34 nett. Runners up: Shoneen and Gary Dunning 63; Sharlene Stewart and Ross McFarland 64.34; Jenny O’Dwyer and Peter Wright 65; Nan and Bob Hoggard, Carol Leary and Ted Murray 66; Jackie and Grant Robson 66.33; Heather and Graham Walker 67.

Men’s pairs: Father and son combinatio­n Brian and Marcus Benjamin (Tauranga) 60.37. Runners-up: Richard Norris and Matthew Beverland 61.67; Steve Crosby and David P Campbell 63.34 ; Paul Williams and Jesse Jensen 63.34. Twos: Karen and Andy Roche, Jenny O’Dwyer and Peter Wright, Michelle and John Libby, Steve Crosby and David P. Campbell, Rodger Bagshaw and Ross Sayer. Ladies Captain Jacquie Bain introduced and welcomed the Club’s new Manager David Campbell, who is taking over the reins from Gary Dunning who is retiring after eight years’ service.
