Run or walk for challenge

- By MELANIE CAMOIN news@waihileader.co.nz

Walk/run the coast to help raise funds for Waihi Beach Surf Lifesaving Club.

The fourth mokoroa Coastal Challenge is coming up on Sunday, November 11. It will raise funds for the local club as well as another charity group, Tauranga Community Foodbank.

Organisers say that 100 percent of the profit will go back to the two not-for-profit organisations.

Similar to the recent Waihi Beach Over The Top Fun Run, the mokoroa Challenge is an event accessible to all levels of fitness and a social way to explore the coastline.

Several options are available from a five or 10km walk/run to a 15km run and a 2km kids dash for the little ones.

The 15km is a new addition this year for those who want the extra challenge.

“There are scenic walk and run routes for all fitness (or lack of!) levels with options to suit one to 100 year olds and we even welcome your pooches.

“Businesses are catered to with a special Corporate Challenge deal, which is great for team building,” organiser Simone Rose says.

Many prizes will be up for grabs, from Tongariro Crossing Package for two, a go pro sponsored by First National real estate, a Whanganui River Self-Guided Canoe package for two and more.

Simone says that last year’s event sold out early but there are still a few tickets available ahead of this year’s event.

“And the first 300 adults and 100 kids receive an unbelievable goodie bag.”

Run by a group of seven mokoroa volunteers, the event started four years ago to raise funds for mokoroa’s skatepark and has now decided to support other organisations and projects districtwide.
