MAD - Making a Difference

- St John Waihi Area Committee Chair, Kris Purden on 027 722 5555

Last week St John were stall-holders at the “Volunteer Expo” organised by Waihi Heritage Vision. During the afternoon many of our current volunteers made themselves known to not just their fellow volunteers across multiple organisations but also to those that were in attendance looking to make a difference.

As our volunteers discussed their roles within St John several people expressed interest in becoming volunteers with St John Most were amazed at the range of opportunities available to support the work of St John within the community such as Health Shuttle Drivers, Caring Callers, Community Carers (including Therapy Pets), Op Shop and Operations. Spreading the knowledge of the services available is always beneficial and any opportunity to thank our volunteers for the valuable work they do in our community is valuable to us too.

It was interesting to see the range of organisations in Waihi who are supported by volunteers and to have the chance to chat and share our experiences.

St John is lucky to have a great group of volunteers; whose time and skills are appreciated throughout the organisation and across the community. As we work towards our funding target for the new building there are a range of fundraising events and activities where “MAD” people are invited to assist. Please call if you are interested in being part of our team.
