Glamour at community awards

The red carpet was rolled out for the annual Katikati and Waihi Beach Community Awards.

Katikati Memorial Hall was glammed up last Saturday night to welcome hundreds of guests and finalists to the annual awards night.

The awards presentati­on started at 7.30pm then dancers and award winners in the Sport Team of the Year, Daniel and Kristin Wilks, performed.

Several Waihi Beach businesses and individual­s won awards including Waihi Beach RSA, gymnastic coach Ayla Morton, and social group for seniors A Friend’s Place.

Other Waihi Beach businesses and individual­s were finalists of this year’s event including Athenree Hot Pools and Surf Shack cafe.

Catering was provided by Katikati’s The Honest Platter, and owner Hollie Procter won the Hospitalit­y Business of the Year.

Guests lined up in front of The Amazing Travelling Photo Booth Bop to get some fun snapshots of the night. Later on, the crowd took to the dance floor with blues-jazz band, Kokomo .

AWARD WINNERS

■ Sports Coach of the Year: Ayla Morton.

Sports Individual of the Year: Swimmer Tessa Bradley.

Sports Team of the Year: Daniel and Kristin Wilks.

Best Volunteer Group: Waipuna Hospice Charity Shop.

Best Volunteer Individual: Anne Cunningham.

The Arts Award: musician Louie Campbell.

Retail Business of the Year: Village Butchery.

Hospitalit­y Business of the Year: The Honest Platter.

Service Business of the Year: Waihi Beach RSA.

Environmen­t and Community Award: A Friend’s Place. Innovation Award: Honey Vet. Tourism Award: Katikati Open Air Art.
