■ 8 BALL

Bowentown Boat Club Thursday, November 1 — Winners: John Fagan, Chris Spiers. Runners-up: Mark Lane and Deb Mc Gougan . Highest Break: Greg Peterson. Raffle Winners: Joe Bridgman, Eda Pipe and Mark Lane. Waihi Beach Memorial RSA The club hosted the TV Bowls Women’s Interclub Tournament — Division 1 last Saturday. With the sun shining and hardly any wind we had really good conditions to play in. Our team members were: Singles — Julie Scelly. Pairs — Maureen Murray, Betty Thomas. Fours — Diane Paulsen, Dulcie Smith, Shirley Taylor, Marie Martin.

Four teams were entered in the tournament — Thames, Thames Coast, Mercury Bay and ourselves. Unfortunately due to the ill health of the husband of one of the Mercury Bay players they defaulted from the tournament at 8am on the Saturday morning and all travelled back home. As a result of this a default was created in each round .

There was some great bowls played throughout the day and good sportsmanship was shown during the games and what a close competition it was right through to the final and deciding round.

Thames and Waihi Beach were level on points going into the final game to be played and what a great challenge our fours team put into that game.

Thames came away with the win and as a result ended up winners on the day with 21 points, Waihi Beach R/U with 18 point and Thames Coast third with 15 points. Congratulations to our team for performing so well among the best players in the Thames Valley. You all played really well and did our Club proud.

A big thank you to Diane Stephens who ran the day so efficiently for us and also umpiring for the day.

Thanks also to Terry S, Keith, Erin and Gwenda R for coming to help with marking, and to supporters Judith, Barry, John, Grant Neville, Marion, Devon and Lynn — thank you. Lastly, once again our thanks to Devon and Terry for the way the greens were presented. We had so many good comments from the visitors.
