Store closed for asbestos removal

- By KRIS PURDEN Chairman, St John Waihi Area committee

Our Waihi store has been closed temporarily after we discovered asbestos in the building during a health and safety audit.

We know many of enjoy shopping with us and sharing your pre-loved goods and regret any inconvenience caused to the Waihi community.

We thank you for your patience and understanding as we resolve this matter.

The asbestos was found at the back of the shop, while we were carrying out an inspection on the site, which is part of an initiative to ensure all our buildings (owned and leased) are fit for use. We are doing the best we can, with the great support of our property owner, the Armey Family Trust, and specialist consultants, to ensure the substance is removed promptly and the store is safe enough to reopen.

While there is a low risk of our customers coming into contact with the substance, we advise anyone who has purchased goods from our store to ensure these items have been cleaned before using.

We hope to be open in a few weeks and if you have goods to donate, please kindly wait for the store to reopen. As always, we are grateful for your continuous support and we are so appreciative of the wonderful array of donations we receive at the store.

Your contributions go a long way in supporting St John and the services we provide to the community.
