Waihi East ready for Twilight Gala

- By CARMEN HALL news@waihileader.co.nz

Waihi East School is in preparation mode as it gears up for its Christmas Carnival Twilight Market.

Board of Trustees deputy chairwoman Michelle Burr says the event will raise funds for the 2019 Year 5 and 6 camp.

The camp, which is being held at Port Waikato would provide development opportunities for students and be an amazing experience, she says.

“By keeping the cost down for families we can ensure that all of the children attend camp. Some of the benefits that our children gain from attending camp are further developing their problem-solving skills, building trusting friendships and relationships with each other and teachers.

“They will also learn to push beyond their own self limits, participating in activities that they might not otherwise get the opportunity to such as abseiling, archery, and rock climbing, improving self confidence and becoming more independent.”

Meanwhile the whole school was getting behind the Christmas Carnival Twilight Market and she was encouraging families and members of the community to mark Thursday December 6 on their calendar and join in with the festivities.

“The Carnival brings the community together for a fun and entertaining evening.

“Come and have dinner at the international food stalls, browse the produce market and bric-a-brac, classroom stalls, fun carnival stalls, and amazing entertainment put on by our students. Buy a ticket for one of the many raffles on offer and place a bid on one of the incredible silent auctions.”
