‘Thanks’: Record money raised

-

The generosity of communities as they came out of lockdown has humbled Daffodil Day volunteers.

Whangamata Lions Club has just counted the money from its annual daffodil sales, which are grown on a farm on the outskirts of town and picked by Lions members who distribute them to retailers.

Irene Tyler and Paulene Rollo fromwhangamata Lions say the $6138 for the Cancer Society Lions Lodge in Hamilton this year was a record.

“On behalf of the Whangamata Lions Club we wish to thank the generous people of Whangamata, the Whangamata business owners who stocked our daffodils and farm owners Ben and Nicole Harris for their support,” says Irene.

In Paeroa, a dedicated group of women dipped into their pockets and organised another event on 19 October at the Paeroa RSA.

Carol Linton welcomed everyone and Hauraki Mayor Toby Adams thanked the 158 attendees for their attendance and support.

A delicious lunch was served by Mel Huang from the RSA kitchen and door sales, a sales table, raffles and an auction raised $4,000 for the Waikato branch of the Cancer Society.
