The well-known words sung by pop star Pink and her daughter – ‘colour me in sunshine’ – give an apt definition of this beach home in Whangamata.

Colour is the operative word. The home is splashed with brightness – bedrooms and living rooms boldly showcasing bright decors – and proud of it. It’s a reflection of this home’s attitude to life at the beach – especially in summer. Whangamata is at its best in summer. The mood is always one of holiday fun, leisure and relaxation. Fun in the sun at the beach, out in the boat in the harbour or further out, fishing at sea.

Being close to town and the harbour, this home is an easy wander downtown to the cafes, bars and restaurants. It has good parking space for the boat, boards and jetskis. Loads of space for the tents too, when the teens and their mates arrive en masse. The garden is fenced, screened and landscaped with a leafy fringe for a nice backdrop. A gate at the front keeps dogs safe as well.

Inside, four bedrooms plus lofts cater for a large family and a couple of spill-overs. The young ones will love the bunk room. Designed for kids, it has two built-in bunks and a secret sleeping area to boot. Other bedrooms easily cater for bunk beds as these owners have done. The loft areas are also brilliant for the kids to play hide and seek.

That’s the thing about this place. Quite apart from its colourful approach, added features elevate the home’s appeal. Apart from the built-in bunks, shelving and storage, there’s a built-in dining table with benches. The family hub is an invitation to entertain – inside and out. The kitchen serves indoors and through sliding windows to the sun deck just outside. A large sheltered patio area expands the lounge outside. In winter, there’s a log fire and heat pump to keep life cosy. The openplan design in the family hub accentuates this home’s unique character. High-raked ceilings, exposed beams and a splitlevel design enhance the space, while polished timber flooring is the perfect complement to the rainbow tone. Timber treatments on window joinery instil a charming rustic touch as well.

Features abound throughout this home. A large laundry meets the demands of busy family life. A hot and cold outdoor shower is a practical addition and there’s a shed for added storage for the boards and toys. This is a home for the seasons – packed with colour and features; loaded with personality.

It is set for auction in March. That said – as with other properties that have been in hot demand – it could sell prior. Ray White’s marketing team of Andrew Mcgee and Lindsay Turnbull suggest it would be wise to register.
