Whangamata¯ tennis

In the final round of the Inter Core club tennis, the Whangamata¯ Seniors recorded their first win, beating competition leaders Katikati 4-1 in an impressive display of tennis.

Simon, the lead Whangamata¯ men’s player, took out the super tiebreaker 10-8 to beat Katikati’s Kevin. Ainsley also won her singles match 6-2, 6-3. Then Whangamata¯ won three of the four doubles matches to complete their victory. Whangamata¯ ‘s number one doubles combination Helen and Christine had to turn their match around after losing the first set 6-1. They powered to victory by taking the second set 6-2 and convincingly taking the super tiebreaker 10-2.

Juniors Katikati K beat Whangamata¯ Wh 6-0 matches and 12-0 sets. Luca K beat Chloe Wh 2-0, Jack K beat Jett Wh 2-0, Decklin K beat Zippy Wh 2-0, Ace K beat Lewis Wh 2-0. Doubles Luca and Decklin K beat Jett and Chloe Wh 2-0, Jack and Ace K beat Zippy and Frankie 2-0.

Juniors Paeroa (P) beat Waih¯ı Beach (WB) 6-0 marches. Singles Henry von Hellemond P beat Dominic Bismarck WB 6-0, 6-0. Luca Stove P beat Koa Allsopp WB 6-4, 6-4. Leah Richmond beat Max Mellow WB 4-1, 4-2, Heidi van Hellemond P beat Arna Richardson WB 10-7; 10-7.

Doubles Henry and Luca P beat Dominic and Koa WB 4-3, 4-0. Leah and Heidi P beat Arna and Max WB 10-8; 10-6.

Seniors Waih¯ı Beach WB beat Paeroa P. Singles. Karl Rogers WB beat Jan Mikkleson P 6-1, 6-2. Nivek Smith WB beat Paul Brown P 6-0, 6-4. Doubles Laura and Lyn WB beat Paul and Brook P 6-3, 6-4. Karl and Nivek WB beat Jon and Grant P 7-5, 6-0.
