WAIH¯I GOLF

- — Rodger Bagshaw

MONDAY VETS: The Vets AGM was held before the weekly haggle, which this week was the best three Stableford scores of the fourperson team. With the course starting to firm up with the fine weather, some good scores were recorded.

The winning team by five shots was Bob Hoggard, Rodger Bagshaw, Jock Stronach and Gary Choat. In second place was the team of Gary Dunning, Norm Sanderson, Earle White, and Gyan Prole. Third place went to David Croker, John Libby, Judy Saunders, and Edna Connolly. Norm Sanderson had the only two. WEDNESDAY LADIES: A very small field came to contest the first round of the Summer Cup. The haggle of the day was net, and the winner was Heather White, on a countback from Sally Sherson, with both ladies having net 70s. All with net 75s were Jenny Tubman, Jennifer Gallaugher, and Sharlene Stewart. Jenny Tubman won the hidden hole with eight points.

At the recent Ladies AGM, Annette Hetherington was returned as ladies captain, and Desley Rosevear as deputy. Salley Grindlay is the treasurer, and Michell Libby is the Saturday representative. The committee is Heather Watters, Megan Jowsey, Jill Morrison, Rosalind Giffney and Heather White. THURSDAY MEN: The fine weather brought out the good field for both of the day’s Stableford haggles. With the course in great condition, there was some very good scoring recorded.

In the morning haggle, Allen Sarjant won in Division 1 on a countback from Blair Langdon, both having 40 points. Next were Bruce (Jackpot) Rutter, John Giffney and Mathew Guptill, all on 39. In Division 2, “the occasional golfer” Bob Baunton scorched home with 44 points, ahead of Mark Mora with what is usually a winning score of 43 points. Next Errol Millar held his form for 40 points, followed by Rob Morrison with 37.

In the afternoon haggle, Rhys Peden had the top score with 40 points, followed by an unbelievable six players with 38 points. Those players were, in countback order, Ron Arthur, Jonathan Clare, Bill Young, Logan Phillips, Mark Hope and Rob Page. Michael Hurley had 37, ahead of eight others with 36 points.

SATURDAY GOLF: The predicted wet weather did arrive for Saturday golf, with the ladies abandoning their competition, and only eight men ventured out for the morning haggle. Only a very light drizzle plagued the players in very mild conditions.

In the morning haggle, Rob Page was the leader with 37 points, with Tom Rowbotham and Sam Gurney next with 33 points.

The afternoon haggle was better attended with 24 players taking part. The clear winner with the round of the day was Harison Madsen with 42 points, with Charles Gurr in second place on 38 points.

All finishing with 36 points were Frank Van Hattum, Wayne Brierley, Grant Robson, Chris Pilmer and Malcolm Coldicutt.
