Jack the dog, and 20 other participants of the Cabana Bar & Cafe’s 10 Day Mountain Challenge, supported by the Pauanui Village Centre, recently conquered Pauanui.

Organiser Amanda Iggulden said the challenge came about after the successful JK’s Kitchen & Bar’s Weekly Walks series earlier this year.

‘‘The events are to encourage physical activity in town and generate some hype for the village centre,’’ she said.

The Mountain Challenge did not appeal to as many people as the walk and run series as they had to commit to ascending Pauanui Mountain, 384 metres high, every day for 10 days.

She said 20 registered to take part in the challenge.

To show they had completed the climb each day they took a selfie at the top and posted it on Facebook. Congratulations to all 20 finishers. The Pauanui Village Centre is planning another 10-day challenge for February to catch some of the holiday-makers.
