Rod Drury inspires Young Leaders

Havelock North Village Press - - News -

Each year I host a Young Leaders breakfast at the EIT Scholars Restaurant. The Young Leaders are the cream of our local secondary schools. Prefects, Heads and Deputy Heads. What an amazing group of young people they are. As an aside, the restaurant is a must visit. The team there do an amazing job and would love to show off their skills to you. I encourage you to make a point of going for lunch or dinner when you get the opportunity. Rod Drury, local lad, who has done incredibly well , addressed the group and gave great advice. Rod said we have “one life, only one opportunity so make the most of it.” With these wise words came many more for our young leaders to take home and mull over. He said that there are opportunities for our youth that as yet haven’t been created. There are the jobs we know of today, but there are jobs that will be created in five years’ time that we are totally unaware of. A great ‘Rodism’was “If your work is fun, then it doesn’t feel like work.” This is a huge incentive for young people to be creative in what they want out of a job and how they want to plan their futures. Rod travels the world and he told the group that New Zealanders are seen as special; we are the envy of many. Why? Because NZ is a fantasy destination filled with passionate people who dream big and achieve hugely. Rod says “The only thing that is holding you back is you.”
