Have­lock North house takes award

AHave­lock North home is this year’s finest home in the re­gion, win­ning supreme awards in the Manawatu, Wan­ganui& East Coast Reg­is­tered Mas­ter Builders 2016 House of the Year com­pe­ti­tion.

Red­mond Builders and Con­struc­tion Lim­ited won eight re­gional awards with the Have­lock North home, in­clud­ing the Manawatu, Wan­ganui& East Coast Reg­is­tered Mas­ter Builders 2016 Supreme House of the Year, a gold award and cat­e­gory win for the New Home over $2 mil­lion award. The com­pany also won the Crafts­man­ship Award, the Heart of the Home Kitchen Award, the Plumb­ingWorld Bath­room Ex­cel­lence Award, the Out­door Liv­ing Award and the Manawatu Con­crete Pol­ish­ing In­te­rior De­sign Award for the same prop­erty.

Judges called the Have­lock North new build an “el­e­gantly de­signed” fam­ily home lo­cated on a pri­vate site over­look­ing the Tuk­i­tuki River.

“This home is an out­stand­ing ex­am­ple of a great team work­ing to­gether to cre­ate a beau­ti­ful home. It dis­plays supreme work­man­ship with a com­bi­na­tion of ma­te­ri­als in­clud­ing cedar weather boards, cedar shin­gle roof­ing and dou­ble­hung tim­ber win­dows. The in-situ ex­posed con­crete fire­places strengthen the in­te­rior and the tim­ber floor­ing adds warmth.

“Be­spoke in­ter­nal pan­elling line the walls and de­tailed ceil­ings are fea­tured in ev­ery room. Black steel in­ter­nal glazed doors di­vide the spa­ces when re­quired while re­main­ing a piece of art. Ev­ery as­pect of the home has been care­fully thought through from the start of the foun­da­tions to the de­tailed chim­neys. This home was an ab­so­lute plea­sure to judge.”

The Manawatu, Whanganui& East Coast Regis­teredMaster Builders 2016 Supreme Ren­o­va­tion of the Year went to Av­enue Con­struc­tion Lim­ited for a Palmer­ston North project, along with aGold Award and Cat­e­gory win for the Mas­ter Build Ser­vices Ren­o­va­tion Award up to $250,000.

The re­sults of the re­gional com­pe­ti­tion were re­vealed at a gala din­ner on July 8 in Palmer­ston North. The win­ning builds were cel­e­brated by mem­bers of the Manawatu, Wan­ganui& East Coast Reg­is­tered Mas­ter Builders As­so­ci­a­tion and the lo­cal con­struc­tion in­dus­try.

There were 12 Gold Award win­ners from Manawatu, Wan­ganui& East Coast which will now be judged against gold award win­ners from around the coun­try to find the Na­tional Gold Re­serve fi­nal­ists. Na­tional cat­e­gory win­ners and the Reg­is­tered Mas­ter Builders Supreme Awards for the 2016 House of the Year and Ren­o­va­tion of the Year will be an­nounced on Novem­ber 26 in Auck­land.

Hawke’s Bay’s other award win­ners in­clude ¦De­sign Builders (HB) Lim­ited, Hastings: Gold Award, Re­sene New Home $300,000-$400,000; Sil­ver Award, PlaceMak­ers New Home $400,000-$500,000; Sus­tain­able Home Award. ¦Build­ing Logic Lim­ited, Napier: Gold Award Fu­tureProof Build­ing New Home $500,000-$650,000.
