Keirunga fire de­lib­er­ately lit

Po­lice are ap­peal­ing for more in­for­ma­tion about the re­cent blaze at Have­lock North’s Keirunga Gar­dens which they are treat­ing as an ar­son.

Fire­fight­ers from Hast­ings, Have­lock North, Napier, Hau­moana and Taradale fire sta­tions bat­tled the fire, which was be­lieved to have been started at 11pm on Tues­day Au­gust 2.

The fire gut­ted one of the build­ings on the site run by Keirunga Gar­dens Arts and Craft So­ci­ety.

Po­lice have con­firmed the fire started un­der­neath a stand-alone flat be­side the main­build­ing, and rapidly es­ca­lated. Nearby his­toric build­ings were saved. The grounds of Keirunga Gar­dens are closed to mo­tor ve­hi­cles at dusk, but can be ac­cessed by foot eas­ily at all times.

Po­lice are re­quest­ing help from the pub­lic.

GUT­TED: The re­cent fire at Keirunga Gar­dens is now thought to be ar­son.
