Staff begin Te Mata Park annual pest control

Havelock North Village Press - - News -

Keeping Te Mata Park in a healthy condition means the annual pest control work will be done during November to reduce the number of possums and rats in the park.

These pests kill native birds and lizards in the park, while possums also damage trees.

Hawke’s Bay Regional Council is managing the contract which is being carried out by approved contractors, Central Districts Pest Control Ltd.

Public safety is a priority with this annual operation, which uses the same control methods used in previous years, and that are used in parks and private gardens. Bait stations will be placed high up in trees out of reach of dogs and children, and warning notices will be posted at all entrances to the park.

During November, children should not be allowed to wander in the park unsupervised, and dog owners should not let their pets wander in the park. Keeping dogs on a leash within the park is advisable so they aren’t able to scavenge.

If the public have any questions about the Te Mata Park pest control programme they can contact Central Districts Pest Control Ltd, 06 836 5590 or 027 576 0776.
