Missing miner mystery
The offer of $25,000 for information that may help solve the disappearance of Kumara hobby goldminer and former Napier man, Hugh McAllister, has not elicited any new clues. Police announced the cash reward earlier this month after Mr McAlister was last seen at his Greenstone River gold claim, northeast of Kumara on January 31, 2010. Nelson detective Paul Heathcote, who has been searching through the files about Mr McAllister’s disappearance for anything that may help police find him, said nothing new had been offered since the reward was announced. ‘‘I am very disappointed and it is unfortunate that nothing new has come to light.’’ The reward would remain in place for a while yet. ‘‘Hopefully, someone will come to us with information that will help us solve this mystery, or maybe it is that no one does know where Mr McAllister is.’’
