Havelock Nth 18 Pirate 10

-

Defending champions Napier Pirate Rugby and Sports semifinal hopes disappeared with this loss at Anderson Park.

‘‘We gave them a fright and with a makeshift side but we’ll have to rely on some upsets working in our favour to make the semifinals now,’’ Pirate coach Phil Rumpler said.

He was full of praise for the contribution made to the game by referee Bruce Dockary.

‘‘Tight games like these need experienced referees and he controlled it well.’’

Progressive Meats Havelock North manager Blair Heasley said his troops were lucky to secure the victory as they blew opportunities.

Prop Brendon Edmonds, openside flanker Adam Bradey and centre Gillies Kaka, who scored both of the hosts tries, all played well.

For Pirate, hooker Danny Logan, lock Ash Johnson and blindside flanker Marcus Donovan all battled effectively in the pack.
