Black Barn wins gold for 2015 rose

- By Linda Hall

Black Barn Vineyards Hawke’s Bay Rose 2015 was awarded a Gold medal at The Fifty Best held in New York.

The event rates the finest in wines and spirits and this time the spotlight was on rose.

Thirty seven roses were blind-tasted by a panel of judges and rated individually on a five-point scoring system. After tallying the scores, medals were awarded based on the judges’ impressions.

Black Barn Vineyards Cellar Door & Events Manager Francis de Jager said Black Barn was always “very proud of our rose”.

“It is very pale, very clean and dry and made from our premium merlot grapes rather than the ‘ fag ends’ often used by vineyards to make rose, we believe the 2016 to be released early spring will be our best yet.

“Our distributors have said they’ll take as much as we can give them and premium retailers are demanding more than ever.

“For more and more people, summer just wouldn’t be summer without a glass of Black Barn rose. Unfortunately we’re usually sold out by Christmas!”
