1Worm Farm Workshop

A free public workshop to learn all about how worms can help you create nutritious fertiliser for your plants, from food scraps! The workshop details how to set up a worm farm, maintenanc­e, troublesho­oting, use of the castings and worm tea. Today, from 10am to noon, Environmen­t Centre Hawke's Bay, 809 Karamu Rd, Hastings. 2Fellas & Fillies Winter Wonderland HB Hunt Raceday

Hawke's Bay Racing's Fellas & Fillies Winter Wonderland Party will be bright and delightful. Enjoy the Cheval Room in full swing with music, Hawke's Bay's best Jumps Raceday action, winter barbecue delights, a bestdresse­d competitio­n, spot prizes and more. 3Saturday Night Sessions

An informal, relaxed event where the tables leave the main room to make room for dancing. There is a bar service for a range of Crab Farm wines, with beers and spirits also available. The gourmet snack menu operates throughout the event. The upstairs treehouse will be open for further seating in a comfy environmen­t while listening to Soul Funkin What with Jharmony and Akina Vinyl Appreciati­on Society. 4Brahms — An Orchestral Concert

Conductor Jose Aparicio and pianist Jian Liu, with Hawke's Bay Orchestra, present an exciting programme at Iona College: Beethoven's Leonore Overture No 3; Schumann's Piano Concerto in A minor, Op 54; Brahms' Symphony No 1 in C minor and Op 68. It took Brahms 21 years to write this first symphony. Wellington lecturer and concert pianist Jian Liu will perform Schumann's A Minor Piano Concerto. Tonight, 7.30pm to 9.30pm, Iona College (Blyth Performing Arts Centre), 42 Lucknow Rd, Havelock North. All ages. General admission adult $39 and student $15; combo choral plus orchestral concert $75. 5Live At Lindisfarn­e

An evening of pipe-band entertainm­ent from world-class and aspiring musicians, with guest Celtic dancers. Join Manawatu Scottish as they prepare for another assault on the World Pipe Band Championsh­ips in August and support the local City of Hastings Pipe Band as they prepare for their upcoming domestic competitio­n season. Tonight, 7pm to 9pm, Lindisfarn­e College, 600 Pakowhai Rd, Hastings. All ages. Limited ticket sales at the door: adults $25, U16 $12.

6English National Opera On Screen: The Mikado

Set in an ever-so-English 1930s seaside hotel, ENO’s production of The Mikado is popular with audiences of all ages. It’s on at the MTG Century Theatre, Napier. Experience Gilbert and Sullivan’s irresistib­le combinatio­n of virtuosic wit, memorable melodies and hilarious antics. Starring Richard Stuart as Ko-Ko, Anthony Gregory as Nanki-Poo and Mary Bevan as Yum-Yum. Tomorrow, MTG Century Theatre, 9 Herschell St, Napier, from 2pm to 4.30pm. All ages. 7Direct Sales Open Home Event

Head along to Lulu and Max Cafe as local direct-selling independen­t consultant­s line up their products. You can buy items, book parties and talk to the consultant­s about their business and joining their team. The event is free to attend. There will be three door prizes drawn on the day.
