● Daily Telegraph A great deal is said here about men being unfit for active service, said Chaplin T F Taylor in St Marks School Room, Wellington. “I wonder what the medical boards would have said to the men who held the lines at Gallipoli for the three months before the evacuation. Many of them had been so reduced in weight that they were mere phantoms, but they carried on.”

● Hawke’s Bay Herald Tribune There was an indignant wail a little while since (says the Sydney Sun) when the press announced the arrival of a bunch of English brides who had captured good Australian soldiers. The Australian Miss isn’t letting it rest at that. She’s decided that it’s time she went over to keep an eye on her “young man” and marry him if the powers will permit.
