Marking the Armistice in Woodville

Armistice Day in Dannevirke on Sunday, November 11, will be marked at 11am at the Cenotaph, with an honour guard by the 1st Battalion Royal New Zealand Infantry Regiment from Linton.

Assembly is at 10.45am, with the short service to commence at 11am. There will be seating available and wreaths laid.

The Dannevirke WW1 100 committee, led by Ross MacDonald, has organised a concert at the Services and Citizens Club which will begin with a pipe lament at 1pm.

Items from EL’s Belles, a monologue from Ben Ellington and a 20-minute performanc­e by the Dannevirke Brass Band will feature. The concert is expected to finish at 2pm.

In Woodville, school students have made 87 poppies which will be tied on posts to represent each of the fallen Woodville soldiers, and Robin Winter has made 100 souvenir poppies which will be for sale.

The Woodville civic service will be held at 10.50am in Fountaine Square on Sunday, November 11 with seating being provided and doves will be released at the conclusion of the service. A World War I display will be held at the Woodville Museum, open from 10am to 4pm. Around 130 invited guests (over 70, both present and former Woodville residents) will be having lunch in the Woodville Stadium, arranged by Woodville Districts Vision. A Memories Concert will be held at the Anglican Church at 1.30pm followed by afternoon tea.
