Power of pollination

-

At the 2018 NZ Flower and Garden Show from November 28 to December 2, visitors can experience award-winning garden exhibits, gush over floral art displays, indulge in a spot of retail therapy and enjoy gourmet food and beverages. Here we feature one of the exhibitors:

KATRINA CHRISTISON has travelled the world to work alongside award-winning garden designers.

She is the face behind garden maintenance and design company Tidy Gardens, which she set up after studying horticulture at Growing Spectrum. Tidy Gardens is responsible for the 200 hanging baskets down the main street in Otorohanga, and more than 150 residential gardens.

Christison has worked with Kiwi and international top designers, including Xanthe White and Ben Hoyle, at the Ellerslie International Flower Show, Japan Gardening World Cup, Singapore Gardening Show and last year’s New Zealand Flower and Garden Show.

For the past five years, Christison has been flown to the UK to be part of gold medal winner Jo Thompson’s team at the Chelsea Flower Show.

“Having worked alongside some of the best designers in the world has taught me how plants interact with each other, and how important it is to understand what a home owner wants from their outdoor space.”

For her exhibit for this year’s New Zealand Flower and Garden Show, Katrina is creating a garden for pollinators, alongside Chris Prebble.

“Our exhibit will include a mix of perennials, annuals and planting combinations that visitors will hopefully want to recreate in their own gardens!”
