Hawke’s Bay is gearing up for its 15th OpenAir Cinema season starting on December 27 at the Black Barn Amphitheatre in Havelock North.

Doris and Urs Blum, the festival organisers, have again managed to secure a variety of movies to satisfy a broad range of film appetites.

To celebrate the 15th season, the festival will finish with a People’s Choice movie night. Until December 10 patrons have the chance to vote for their favourite movie: Allied, Pecking Order, The Wife, Topp Twins: Untouchable Girls. To vote go to https:/ /www.surveymonkey.com/ r/M3JBD9V

The season kicks off with the longawaited sequel of the 2008 sold out screening of BBC’s Earth: One Amazing Day, the enchanting big screen family friendly adventure that spectacularly highlights how every day is filled with more unseen dramas and wonders than we can possibly imagine — until now!

Music plays a big part (even bigger if the Topp Twins make it into the final night) in quite a few movies this season. Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again opens the curtain. Join the celebration, sing along, dance, and discover how it all began! Ten years after Mamma Mia! premiered, you are invited back to the Greek island to discover Donna’s (Meryl Streep, Lily James) young life, experiencing the fun she had with the three possible dads of her daughter.

The next night plays host to Stop Making Sense, director Jonathan Demme’s groundbreaking concert film that captures the enormous energy and joyous highs of the 1984 live performance of Talking Heads, packed with their most memorable songs. Wall-to-wall music, beautiful cinematography and the legendary ‘Big Suit’ make this “the greatest concert movie ever”. ( Rolling Stone)

Lily James also stars in the historical romance drama The

Guernsey Literary And Potato Peel Pie Society. Based on the novel of the same name, James plays a freespirited journalist who forms a lifechanging bond with the delightful and eccentric club. A beautiful story of love, friendship and the sadness of friends lost.

The tagline of Ocean’s 8 says it all: “Every con has its pros.” Five years, eight months, twelve days upon her release from prison, the estranged sister (Sandra Bullock) of legendary conman Danny Ocean puts together a team of unstoppable female crooks (Cate Blanchett, Helena Bonham Carter, Anne Hathaway, Rihanna) to pull off the heist of the century.

Frances McDormand and Sam Rockwell give Oscar-winning performances in the darkly comic crime mystery Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri. The film portrays a mother who is fed up with her daughter’s murder case having gone unsolved for months. To kick things back into gear, she buys
