8 injured as vans collide
Eight people were injured in a crash between two vans in South Auckland yesterday. Police said four of the injured were children, aged between 6 and 13. One child was sent to Auckland’s Starship Hospital via helicopter in a critical condition. Another patient, in a serious condition, was also taken to Starship via helicopter. Two other children were in a moderate condition. Four adults were also treated for moderate injuries. Senior Sergeant Dave Readings said initial inquiries indicated some of the occupants from one of the vans were not wearing seatbelts. One person in a moderate condition was transferred via ambulance to a local medical centre. The accident happened at 11.25am at the intersection of Gun Club and Schlaepfer Rds.
